Scope and Content

(Seven of a set of seven photographs).

The Grand Theatre opened in August 1901. Its greatest days were during World War Two when its was taken over by the evacuated B.B.C. Variety Department for a series of regular shows including the Happidrome, announced as 'Coming to you from somewhere in Britain'. The Welsh National Opera gave their first North Wales Season at the Grand in 1951, as part of the Festival of Britain celebrations. By the time they returned to Llandudno six years later, the Company had outgrown the stage.
