Imperial Hotel, Promenade, Llandudno

Scope and Content

The Imperial Hotel is at the Eastern end of Gloddaeth Crescent and it was created in 1872 by uniting a string of boarding houses which had been built in 1865. It was extended upwards at the beginning of the twentieth century and again, after a serious fire on the top floor, during 1972. Its most famous guest was the exiled Queen Rambai Barni of Siam until she, like everyone else, was turned out in 1940 when the Imperial became the Headquarters of Britain's evacuated Inland Revenue Department.
