The volume contains calculations and notes relating to the construction of roads on the Cheshire Estate. There are calculations of the contents of parcels of land; calculations of the quantities of materials required for road-making (kerb-stones, sand, cinders etc.); advice notes for orders of road-making materials; records of work done by road-men on various roads; invoices for stone wagons; and carting accounts. The volume was probably compiled by Maxwell Archibald Roscoe, surveyor and architect at the Altrincham Estate Office.
