The series comprises copies of notices sent to tenants requiring them to vacate land which had been sold for building purposes (see EGR14/12-13 below for the tenders and draft conveyances). The original notices were delivered by hand or sent by registered post. Typically tenants were given four weeks' notice to quit their holdings, though occasionally the notice might be as short as one week. The notices were issued by the agent at the Stamford Estate Office in Altrincham. From 1897 the notices were pre-printed, with spaces left for particulars to be entered by hand. From 1919 they were typewritten. Attached to, or enclosed within, some of the notices are registered post certificates, correspondence and plans. There are also a few standard notices to quit, as EGR14/9 above.
