Scope and Content

The series comprises standard collector's rent books, with pre-printed columns, in which are recorded rent payments by small-rent tenants in Bowdon parish. From 1900 onwards rents were collected weekly, on Mondays, by the Estate Foreman (see EGR14/9/1 above). The rents books are arranged by township or hamlet and provide the full name of the tenant, the rent per week, arrears, and amounts of rent paid each week.

EGR14/33/1 covers the townships and hamlets of Bollington, Dunham Town [to. Dunham Massey], Dunham Woodhouses [to. Dunham Massey], Oldfield [to. Dunham Massey], Sinderland [to. Dunham Massey] and Carrington in 1897, and Carrington only from 1898 to 1918.

EGR14/33/2 covers Bollington, Dunham Town, Dunham Woodhouses, Sawpit Street [to. Dunham Massey], Henshall Lane [to. Dunham Massey], Sinderland Green [to. Dunham Massey], Poorhouses [to. Dunham Massey], Lowerhouses [to. Dunham Massey], Oldfield [to. Dunham Massey], Bowdon (from July 1917) and Altrincham (from January 1918). EGR14/33/3-11 cover the above, with the addition of Knutsford Road, Carrington and Dunham Hall. Entries for Raingill Cottages [to. Dunham Massey] begin in January 1930, entries for Brookside Cottages [to. Dunham Massey] from April 1934.

EGR14/33/12 covers Raingill Cottages only from 1916 to 1929.
