Scope and Content

The volumes contain particular half-yearly accounts of expenditure on the Dunham Massey estate (quarterly for parts of 1859 and 1867). The accounts were probably compiled from information contained in the analysed expenditure cash books (EGR14/23 below). The series ends in 1883, when the administration of the Cheshire Estates was transferred to the Stamford Trustees.

Each volume is divided into the following accounts: improvements and repairs; rates and taxes; park and grounds; horses [purchases of fodder and tackle, blacksmiths' and veterinary surgeons' bills etc.] and waggoners; subscriptions and charities; rents paid; game and covers; Dunham Hall; Dunham gardens; roads and building land; payments to lessees for lands taken for building purposes; Lord Warrington's Charity; [upkeep and repair of] river banks; and incidental and general. Each volume is prefaced by a summary of the individual accounts. All items of expenditure are described briefly, together with their cost, and audit numbers.

Item EGR14/20/3 is believed to have once existed but is now presumed lost, not being found at the Estate Office.
