Scope and Content

The rental lists tenancies for lives in Dunham Massey, Bollington, Bowdon, Timperley, Hale, Ashley, and Altrincham. Within each township tenancies are arranged in tenement-number order. For each tenancy the following information is provided: the tenement number; the full name of the tenant; the date of the lease; and the names, relationship (if any) to the tenant and ages of the lives. When leases were renewed or changes in tenancy occurred the information in the rental was updated.

At the back of the volume is a register of the deaths of tenants and lives from 1785 to 1814, giving the number and location of the tenancy, the name of the deceased, and the date of death (usually the exact date).

The item contains a wealth of information of value to demographic and genealogical studies.

Dating: the last date occurring in entries made when the rental was originally compiled is 1787, implying that the item was first compiled in c.1787, superseding EGR14/6/3/2 above which was in use until c.1783; entries continued to be made until c.1816.
