Scope and Content

An early draft of the book, consisting of: typescript contents page; typescript chronology of the poems; and carbon typescripts of the translated poems, with the exception of 'Apocrypha', 'Big City Icons', and the final seven poems of the published version taken from Pilinszky's collections Denouement and Space and relationship. The rest of the poems have been ordered into sections with wrappers based on their original Hungarian publication. The poems have been annotated, probably by János Csokits, who was sent Hughes's translations for comment. He has added a commentary and suggestions for alterations in a number of the poems, and has inserted his own tentative translation of 'Revelations VIII.7'.
