C.H. Sisson, Anchises

Scope and Content

Book file relating to C.H. Sisson's poetry collection Anchises (Manchester: Carcanet New Press, 1976). The volume was typeset in-house at Carcanet and printed by Eyre and Spottiswoode. The book file contains only the incomplete manuscript and related papers. Includes: a letter to Schmidt from Sisson dated 18 April 1976 relating to the proofs of the volume; carbon typescript acknowledgements and queries on the text [produced by Val Warner, who presumably copy-edited the book]; Sisson's typescript epigraph; two sheets of manuscript notes relating to the planned layout of the volume; ribbon or photocopy typescripts of the poem texts, a number of which have been amended or annotated by Sisson; and an additional photocopy of the poems 'It Is', 'Perhaps' and 'The House'. The manuscript is missing the last six poems in the volume, namely 'The Fire-bird', 'Troia', 'The Dew', 'Cato', 'The Question' and 'Est in Conspectu Tenedos'.
