Sasine upon a mortification by Thomas Brown to Robert Forrester of all his tenements on High Street for the maintenance of a chaplain and for a chantry to be founded at the altar of St Mungo in the Laigh Kirk of Glasgow, of which Sir Patrick Blackadder of Tulliallan is appointed the patron with reservation of the liferent to the said Thomas of the said tenement, at least until he is advanced to a better benefice.

Unidentified seal in very poor condition. Pendant on a tag.

The document, written on parchment, bears five different authentification marks by the notaries John Thornton, Richard Ferguson, Thomas Hugonis, Andrew Marthell, and Adam Red. It is written in a small pre-secretary hand. The first letter is ornamented, and the first words are written in bookhand.

Blackhouse charters catalogue description: 'Seasine upon a Mortification by Thomas Brown air to Mr. Rob. Forrester of all his tennements back and fore built by the said Mr. Rob. Lying in Glasgow in the High Street leading from the high church to the Cross as there bounded for the mentinance of a Chaplane and of Chapel to be founded at the altar of St. Mungo in the laigh church of Glasgow whereof Sir Patrick Blakader of Tulliallan is appoynted the patron with reservation of the Liferent to the said Thomas of the said tennement at least till he should be advanced to a better benefice dated 31 Oct. 1499'.
