Book file relating to Dudley Young's critical study, Out of Ireland: a reading of Yeats's poetry (Cheadle: Carcanet Press, 1975). The book was copy-edited by Val Warner and printed by W. and J. Mackay. The book file, however, contains only the manuscript of the volume. This is in the form of mixed ribbon and photocopy typescript, with one inserted footnote in manuscript, and typescript preliminary pages added by Carcanet. Warner has added printing instructions and carried out a small amount of editing (mainly to ensure that the text conforms to house style), using blue and red ink and pencil. Some revisions to the text in black ink are by Dudley Young, and Michael Schmidt appears to have carried out a very small amount of minor editing in blue ink. The manuscript is stored with three sheets of typescript notes and instructions on style by Val Warner, and a postcard and two letters to Warner from Young relating to revisions requested.

Arrangement
Val Warner had foliated the manuscript throughout, but most of these numbers have been crossed through and replaced by new numbers reflecting page breaks in the printed text (and therefore often occurring mid-way down a page, or apparently out of order when taking footnotes into account. The archivist has therefore added running numbers (both to the manuscript and the accompanying papers) in the top left of each sheet.
