MS 354: Account Book of Henry Handley Norris

Scope and Content

Together with MSS 349-353 & 355 this forms a set of six 19th century account books, and a bank pass book, belonging to Henry Handley Norris (1771-1850, Church of England clergyman and leader of the High Church faction known as the Hackney Phalanx). This volume covers the years 1847-1852 , but contains evidence of the reuse of an earlier account book from 1746. Purchased using the Leishman fund in 1981 (Colvin's supplement to Coxe).

  • 1. Fols 1v-32r: Norris, Henry Handley. Account book recording income and expenditure for 1847-1850. English. Single 19th c. hand in black ink. Accounts with ca. 46 lines to a page. Double-entered. Divided into five unequal vertical columns with pencil rules. [Fols 32v-69v blank except for ruling].
  • 2. Fol. 1r & preceding stubs: Remains of an earlier set of accounts in an 18th century hand dated 1746.
