18th century notebook containing a translation Pliny the Younger's Panegyricus into English, by John Peach (1739-1773, matriculated St John's in 1757, later Fellow).

  • 1. Fols 2r-45v: Peach, John, Translation of Pliny the Younger's Panegyricus . English. Single 18th c. hand in black ink. Written in long lines with ca. 34-35 lines to a page. Catchwords at bottom right of each page. "[Fol. 1 blank, caption fol. 2r] Caius Plinius Secundus his Panegyric upon Nerva Trajan. [text] It was certainly, Gentlemen, very well & prudently appointed by our forefathers ... not as if I looked upon myself as Consul, & after that as a Person of Consular Dignity, but as a Candidate for the Consulship. J. Peach. Senr. [fol. 46 blank]."
