Scope and Content

18th century set of notes and extracts from Latin, Greek and English texts (including Milton and passages from the Bible) relating to Homer's Iliad made by Robert Weston (matriculated St John's 1727, later a barrister at the Inner Temple, 1753).

1. Fol. 2r-36r: Weston, Robert. Collectiones ex Homero (from caption on fol. 2r). Latin, Greek & English. Single 18th c. hand in black ink. Written in long lines with ca. 24 lines to a page. Occasional divisional rules.

  • a. Fol. 1: [blank excepting provenance inscriptions].
  • b. Fol. 2r-36r: Collectiones ex Homero ... . [Caption]. Different sequence of notes for each book (of the Iliad?) denoted by a Greek letter: Alpha (fols 2r-13r), Beta (fols 13r-17v), Gamma (fols 18r-21r), Delta (fols 21v-24r), [Epsilon] (fols 24r-27r), [Zeta] (fols 27r-30r), [Eta] (fols 30r-32v), Theta (fols 33r-35v). With Iota as a caption to 36r, otherwise blank.
  • c. Fol. 36v: [blank].
