      Support (paper) 198 x 76 mm. Text area: typically 195 x 60 mm. Fol. 4 leaves. (1 later pencil sequence of foliation in top right of each rector: 4 leaves). Taped onto stubs in an album of 14 leaves (231 x 149 mm), leaves 1-2 of the manuscript on a stub formed from leaf 3 of the album, and leaves 3-4 on a stub formed from leaf 6. Binding: 20th c. deep green buckram with shelf number in gilt on spine.

Scope and Content

Fragments of a broadly contemporary copy of the diary of William Laud (1573-1645, Archbishop of Canterbury). The two fragments cover the dates May 1629 to August 1632, and 21st December 1640 to 4th January 1641/2. The original comprises St John's manuscript number 258.

1. Fols 1r-4v: Laud, William. Fragments of a copy of his diary. Chiefly English but with several passages in Latin. Single 17th c. cursive mixed hand. Written in 1 column with ca. 40 lines to a page. Dates in left hand margins.
