Christopher Middleton,Pataxanadu and other prose

Book file containing the collated proofs of Christopher Middleton's Pataxanadu and other prose (Manchester: Carcanet New Press, 1977). The book was typeset in-house at Carcanet, printed by Unwin Brothers, and copy-edited by Val Warner, who has marked up these proofs. She indicates typesetting errors in red and other changes to be made in blue, incorporating all the requests for changes made by Middleton in his own copy of the proofs (at CPA/1/1/1/62/3); queries and comments are made in pencil. The proofs are complete from the preface onwards but lack other preliminaries. There is one additional sheet of photocopy typescript taken from the manuscript of the book (at CPA/1/1/1/62/2) and inserted here before pages 64-65 to clarify the use of accents and Greek letters. The proofs are stored with: two letters from Middleton relating to requests for changes to be made to the proofs (also making reference to the proofs of his book Bolshevism in art), and the acknowledgements to be included; carbon typescript contents list, to which Warner has added page references; typescript note on the proofs from Warner; Middleton's own holograph title page; and a typescript list of acknowledgements.

Due to the inclusion of additional papers and an insert, as well as inconsistencies in the printed page numbering, the archivist has added running numbers in the top right of each sheet.

The manuscript and author's proofs of this volume are included in the first accession of the archive, at CPA/1/1/1/62.
