Scope and Content

File containing the collated proofs of Miklós Radnóti's Forced march: selected poems, translated from the Hungarian by Clive Wilmer and George Gömöri (Manchester: Carcanet New Press, 1977). The book was typeset in-house at Carcanet, printed by Billing and Sons, and Margaret Hutchinson was the proof-reader and collator. These page proofs are complete from the book's introduction onwards. Hutchinson's usual practice was to use the author's proofs to form the basis for the collated set; corrections made here in black and blue ink may therefore be by one of the translators. Hutchinson herself has added further corrections in green. She has marked the proofs as collated on 25 May 1979. Stored with: additional proof sheet of page from the introduction, annotated by Schmidt; original typescript title, acknowledgements, contents and epigraph pages taken from the manuscript of the book; and the envelope in which the proofs were forwarded to Carcanet from Hutchinson.

The initial unnumbered sheets at the front of the file have now been numbered i-vi by the archivist; these are followed by a printed page numbering sequence running 8-62.
