Scope and Content

Book file containing manuscript and proofs of the critical anthology edited by Brian Hepworth, The rise of Romanticism: essential texts (Manchester: Carcanet New Press, 1978). The volume consisted of a general introduction by Hepworth, and extracts from the writings of various literary figures and philosophers, each with an introduction by Hepworth; the book grew from Hepworth's conviction that there was more of a continuity than a contrast between eighteenth-century thought and Romanticism. The book was printed by Billings. Debbie Mitchell was probably the proof-reader and Robert Wells the copy editor.
