Scope and Content

Bundle of miscellaneous press cuttings originally stored in a file labelled "Cuttings etc". They are as follows:

  • /1-2 Cuttings relating to the play The Unknown Warrior in which RD played the Soldier, at Liverpool Playhouse in May 1929.
  • /3 Two-page article from the Illustrated entitled 'Fantasy in the Russian Manner', about Shaw's Heartbreak House at the Cambridge Theatre, London, in 1943, in which RD played Captain Shotover. With seven pictures of scenes from the production (10 Apr 1943).
  • /4 Cutting of the 'Notes and Comments' section of Our Time magazine, which includes a comment on poor arrangements for troop shows, illustrated by a cartoon making reference to RD's production of An Ideal Husband (13 May 1944).
  • /5 Cutting of an advertisement for RD's production of The Cure for Love at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool, with Wilfred Pickles in the main role [Jan 1946].
  • /6 Letter from "Enid", in which she encloses six sheets of mounted press cuttings, all of which are reviews of the film The Cure for Love, and urges RD to read them, commenting that he has "taken to heart the cynical comments of some few objectionable inhuman types without waiting to read what the sensible people have to say" (3 Jan 1950).
  • /7 Empty envelope addressed to RD from Dorothy Holmes-Gere, and re-directed from The Spotlight (postmarked 2 Jan 1955).
