"Jack Minster" file

Scope and Content

Jack Minster was employed by RD as a director at the Westminster Theatre during RD's management there. He directed An Ideal Husband at the Westminster in 1943-4, and Emma starring Anna Neagle, on a provincial tour and subsequently at the St James's Theatre in 1944-5. This material principally consists of correspondence with Minster relating to: his contract and salary; the production of An Ideal Husband; the Emma tour; Minster's other theatrical work at the time; RD's decision to end Minster's contract at the Westminster in summer 1944; and arrangements for Emma to be produced in London in 1945.

There are two apparently unrelated items included amongst the material: /61 is a manuscript draft of a short address, apparently in RD's hand; and /73 is a letter to RD dated 22 Nov 1943 apparently from one of his family in America.

The papers are in their original order, which consist of two bundles each in broadly reverse chronological order. /1-67 covers Jun 1943-Jan 1945; /68-80 covers Nov 1943-May 1944.
