This is where the Happy Valley is now situated. The theatre was built in 1933 to replace an earlier structure which was destroyed by fire. Opposite the Grand Hotel there is a colonnaded walk, opened in 1932 leading to the Happy Valley, an area which tourists discovered at least by 1860 when Lot Williams built his Camera Obscura on the mound still known as the Camera Hill.
