The bundle contains detailed returns of the Royal Regiment of Cheshire Militia in 1761 and 1796 (EGR4/2/2/1/1 & /7-8), lists and returns of commissioned officers in the regiment in c.1784, 1789, 1793, 1803 and 1804 (/2-3, /6, /10 & /12), and notes on certain officers in c.1792 (/4). In addition there is a printed order for the embodiment of the Cheshire militia in 1793 (/5), a return of clothing issued to the regiment in 1797 (/9), and a letter from the 5th Earl of Stamford to his son George Harry Grey (1765-1845), Lord Grey, later 6th Earl of Stamford, concerning the promotion of officers in 1804 (/11).
