Account of Tour

Scope and Content

Sheet containing an account of a nine-day tour of the Lake District from Dunham Massey, undertaken in September 1832 by George Harry Grey (1765-1845), 6th Earl of Stamford. There is an itinerary for the journey from Dunham Massey to Keswick, stating the miles between towns, the inns at which he stopped, and the total mileage and number of hours spent travelling each day. There are also brief notes on excursions from Keswick to Borrowdale, Calder Bridge and Buttermere, and a calculation of the total distance travelled during the tour (346 miles).

Attached is a separate sheet containing an itinerary for another journey from Dunham Massey to Kendal, Bowness and Ulverston and return, undated.
