Gabrielle calls herself Poléma in her letters. She was possibly the mother of Gabrielle Réjane (1856-1920), a very successful actress of the Belle Epoque. From the tone of her letters, she might have been Hugo's mistress. The Maison de Victor Hugo in Paris has a love letter from her.
