Scope and Content

Autograph letter to Hugo from two young translators who, stating that a drama just performed in London travesties the figure of his Cromwell, propose to adapt Cromwell for the English theatre and ask Hugo to tell them the main points to bring out to an English audience in order to do justice to his creation.

Jerrold was an English writer and the grandson of Douglas William Jerrold (1803-1857), playwright and founder of Punch.
