Scope and Content

From Revd. George Whitefield in Charleston, South Carolina, to Mr Woodruff in Savannah, Georgia, thanking him for his letter asking what he must do in order to be saved? He can rest assured that he will enter heaven as long as his heart 'is upright towards God'. No one has ever sought Jesus in vain for 'he bled to make your salvation perfect…& therefore be of good courage renounce yourself & the world, & eer long I shall see you crowned with glory, and oh that I may see Mrs Woodruff also amongst that heavenly train that follow the Lamb…she has strong passions, but if she will take pains & cry to him that is able to save they will no longer have dominion over her'. As for Woodruff's children 'If you dye or live I'll willingly take charge of them' as promised.

He shall return at the appointed time, if it be God's will.
