Scope and Content

From W[illiam] J[ames] Linton [artist and writer] to JHN. Topics covered include: a request by Linton that JHN distribute copies of the English Republic newsletter; a proposal that Linton give a lecture at the Athenaeum, Linton asks if he will be paid; an exhibition, in which a number of Linton's engravings were to have appeared; Linton's intention to let his house,"Brantwood" [at Coniston, Cumbria], and a later request that JHN help him sell the house for £1,600 in order to finance his "American work" [Linton sold the house to John Ruskin in 1871]; the financial failure of the printers who were to produce an edition of Linton's "poems".
