From James Latter to JHN. Latter replies, on behalf of Lord Derby, to JHN's request for information upon special collections of books in Lancashire and Cheshire [see also JHN/1/26, 1/30, 1/35, 1/54, 1/65/2, 1/76, 1/78, 1/88, 1/103, 1/104, 1/116]. He informs JHN that the library at Knowsley has a good collection on natural history, especially ornithology, but little else that is rare. The natural history library was formed by the 13th Earl of Derby and added to by the present Earl and consists of c. 2,000 volumes; the entire library contains c. 20,000 volumes.
