Scope and Content

From Sarah Wesley to Sally Wesley [at Revd. Dr George Gregory's house in Leyton, Essex], in reply to Sally's letter, which was delivered by Mr Spilsbury yesterday. She was sorry that Sally's departure was delayed, but the weather was fair, and there were friends for her to see on the way to board the coach. The plentiful rain will, it is hoped assist a plentiful harvest. Sarah has enclosed Sally's letters, as the weather will probably prevent Sally from calling for them in person.

Charles has sent word to Count de Lage to accompany him, and Sir John Thorold bt to visit Mr Udney(?) today at one.

Sarah went with Sally's brother to the Exhibition, but the day was unfavourable, and they experienced great difficulty in finding a coach to take them home. She bore the fatigue rather better than expected, but she was glad of an opportunity to sit down during the day. She missed having Sally there to show her the more interesting exhibits.

Master Stokes informs her that Mr Higginbottom has told his organ builder, that he has no intention of paying Sally's brother. Sarah feels that the loss must be borne quietly, although Mr Mason is of the opinion that the claim against Higginbottom is a strong one. Mr H is building a chapel in the north.
