Scope and Content

Correspondence with Karen Gershon (1923-1993), German-born British poet. Contains a small number of references to poems submitted to CQ by Gershon, including 'Prognosis' (1975) (/51-2). Other topics covered include: progress with her writing and grants received; writing trips to Israel in 1967-8 (/12-16); her subsequent move to Israel and her life there (/19-21, /28 and /39); the Holocaust (/19); a reading by visiting British poets in Jerusalem in July 1972 (/30); Gershon's visit to Britain in 1972, including a reading at Manchester Poetry Centre (/30 and 32-7); her return to England in 1974 (/40); her poetry collection My Daughters, My Sisters (/40-1 and /47); and her autobiography (/59).

A number of typescript poems are included, some of them signed by Gershon, including: 'Married Love' (/18); 'My Father's House', 'My Daughters, My Sisters', 'By Now my Father', 'Family Sum', 'My Ruth', 'Stella's Poem', 'After the Flood', 'Foster-England', 'Tony in Clover', 'Sometimes my Mother...', 'Compared with Single Women...', and 'Death in Clapton' (/38). /44 is a pamphlet publication of Gershon's poem 'First Meeting' (Keepsake Press, 1974).
