Scope and Content

Correspondence with Donald (Alfred) Davie (1922-1995), British poet and critic. Contains various references to poems by Davie submitted to CQ, including: 'Housekeeping' (1962) (/1-4); a series of 'poems of the fifties' contributed toWord in the Desert, the tenth anniversary issue of CQ in 1968 (/8-10); 'To a Teacher of French' (1972) (/19-21); and a review article of a book by Hugh Kenner on Ezra Pound in 1972 (/26-7). Other topics include: Davie's decision to move to Stanford University, California (/9-10); a poetry reading by Davie at Manchester Poetry Centre on 3 November 1972 (/21-4 and /29-30); the publication of his Collected Poems (1972) (/23-4 and /31); the establishment of Poetry Nationin 1973 (/31-2 and /34-6); Philip Larkin's Oxford Book of Twentieth-Century English Verse (1973) and Davie's reservations about his editorial policy (/32-3).

/2 is a typescript copy of Davie's poem 'Housekeeping'.
