Scope and Content

Banner with enclosed wood batons at top and bottom edges, single panel of blue damask weave silk and cotton (?) top and bottom edge each comprise of one panel of cream plain weave silk (?)with a flat woven braid of white cotton and metal strips ground, gold and cream figured cotton (?) and silk (?) with small floral pattern lining, design: stylised rose positioned between 'GFS' and appliquéd panel of cream plain weave silk (?) embroidered with the words 'SAFFRON WALDEN', the raised embroidered rose comprises gold coloured wrapped metal thread and satin stitch in shades of green and orange silk (?) floss, design outlined with laid and couched black cord and yellow silk (?), blue two ply silk (?) cord attached to each upper corner in bow arrangement, ends knotted and frayed creating tassel effect, all four edges are trimmed with a blue silk (?) cord, encased wooden baton provides support to top, banner hangs from metal ring which is knotted onto centre point of cord. wooden dowel encased in lower edge hanging mechanism.
