Scope and Content

Banner, pieced panels of red damask weave silk and cotton (?), yellow damask weave silk (?), green damask silk (?) ground, blue rep weave cotton (?) lining, design: the words 'SAINT. OSWALD'; 'BROADWATER' embroidered with laid and couched stitches in yellow silk(?) and outlined with metal wrapped thread in same technique, main design (Christ on the cross with boy and girl figure on hill) appliquéd in a variety of fabrics, repeat rose motif on each vertical border and within scroll design along lower edge, edges outlined with laid and couched metal wrapped and silk (?) threads, rose motifs and other details embroidered, detailing on Christ's body is painted, top, vertical edges and borders trimmed with narrow woven braid with plait design of gold silk (?), five tabs of the same damask used in the main ground, cream reverse twill weave tape lining (original?) adhered to tabs hanging mechanism.
