Scope and Content

Correspondence with Arthur Krock (1886-1974), journalist, relating to the employment of Krock as a correspondent for the Manchester Guardian in New York, initially as a temporary substitute, and later in a permanent position. There is discussion of terms of employment, salary and payment for articles, the work required and potential subjects for articles. There is correspondence relating to a request by Knock for guidance as to the content of articles, with reference to an article on Henry Ford, and discussion of a misunderstanding of a telegram sent by Knock, which was mistakenly thought to have announced the death of Elihu Root, lawyer and statesman.

Also included is correspondence relating to the Knock's resignation in order to take up a post at the New York Times, with discussion of a potential successor.
