Letter from C.P. Scott (1846-1932), Manchester Guardian editor (1872-1929), informing Hobhouse of an order from the [War Office] Press Bureau which will effectively halt all reporting on war; Scott claims this is because the Times and the Daily Mail’s reporting has revealed the Allies’ strategies, providing German forces with an advantage. States that the press is forbidden to report on movements for four days, and that military reports are prohibited outright. Scott concludes that the Manchester Guardian will run in short form.
