Administrative / Biographical History
The Annan and District Co-operative Society was founded in 1920 in Annan, Dumfries-shire. Within 2 years it had already attracted 524 members and the Society continued to grow reaching 3,666 members in 1966. The Society grew from one branch in 1920, to providing 5 grocery stores, a butchers, 2 clothing stores, and a funeral service by the 1960's. The Society also operated a delivery service by van to its more rural customers.
In 1971 the Annan and District Co-operative Society was amalgamated into the Dumfries and Maxwelltown Co-operative Society.
