Administrative / Biographical History

The Queen of the South Co-operative Society was founded in 1881 in Dumfries where it opened a branch on the High Street. The Society had 340 members by 1887 supplying groceries, baked goods, shoes, and coal.

In 1891 the Society merged with the Dumfries & Maxwelltown Co-operative Society.
