Correspondence between Amalgamation and FMCSA regarding the introduction of overtime and night shift working. Employers saw these measures as essential to meet orders; the unions were only prepared to countenance such working in emergencies. Ring spinning generally operated under a shift system by the 1950s. In 1958 the Amalgamation agreed to deal with applications for night-shift working on a case-by-case basis.
