File containing manuscript and proofs of Edgell Rickword's Behind the eyes: collected poems and translations (Manchester: Carcanet New Press, 1976). The book was typeset in-house at Carcanet and printed by Eyre and Spottiswoode. It appears to have accumulated in pieces over time and gone through numerous stages of revision by Rickword, and this is reflected in the rather chaotic organisation of the book file.

Scope and Content
Arrangement
The incomplete manuscript and proofs of the volume formed obvious subdivisions within the book file. The rest of the material, however, was simply bundled together in no obvious order. This included corrected proofs of sections of the book (principally those not represented in the main manuscript and proof bundles) at various different stages of revision; the latter two sections were heavily revised by Rickword before publication. The archivist has therefore attempted to further divide this mass of papers into coherent groupings, reflecting these different stages of revision and proof correction.
