1978 Great Britain Lacrosse Touring Team to Australia

Scope and Content

The Great Britain Lacrosse Touring Team undertook a five-week tour of Australia from 19 July to 23 August 1978 playing matches in Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmania and Canberra and including three test matches against Australia. Celia Brackenridge was appointed captain for the Great Britain team.

The scrapbook contains souvenir programme (signed), tour brochure and itineraries, circulars from the All England Women's Lacrosse Association and Celia to team members on arrangements for the tour, training programme, list of monetary and 'in kind' donations from sponsors, tour diary entries, letters from Celia to her family at home, photographs of the tour, press cuttings (including a column written by Celia for publication in the Sheffield Morning Telegraph ), tourist brochures and postcards featuring places visited by the Great Britain team, tour songs lyrics, and ephemera including tickets, invitations, menus and beer mats.

The scrapbook is accompanied by a separate team folder which contains names, addresses and brief biographical details of team members, tour itinerary, correspondence re sponsorship and promotion, letters and cards sent to Celia offering congratulations on her selection as a member of the Great Britain team and appointment as captain, sending good wishes for a successful tour, and thanks and appreciation from team members following the tour, press cuttings, and a notebook. The notebook contains a list of recipients for postcards, manuscript drafts of Celia's reports for the Sheffield Morning Telegraph , a table of results for all matches played giving score, venue and names of players selected, Celia's speech for the farewell dinner, journal entries and notes on analysis of each match.
