1980 Great Britain Tour of USA

Scope and Content

A team from Great Britain undertook a three-week tour of the United States from 7-27 April 1980 visiting New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland and Philadelphia. Celia Brackenridge was appointed captain for the team. This commemorative tour celebrated the 50th anniversary of the United States Women's Lacrosse Association (USWLA).

The scrapbook contains cards, letters and telegrams offering congratulations to Celia on her captaincy and appreciation for her contribution to the success of the tour, correspondence between Celia and well-wishers and post cards sent from Celia to her family, a commemorative brochure celebrating the 50th anniversary of the USWLA (which includes synopses of previous tours between the USA and Great Britain going back to 1935), tour programme and itineraries, lists of officials and team members for matches, tickets and posters, GB squad information bulletins, tour diary entries, photographs of the tour, press cuttings, tourist brochures and postcards featuring places visited by the GB team, rough notes on match statistics, tour songs lyrics, Celia's notes for a speech delivered at the Farewell Banquet, typescript reports on the tour submitted by the coach Sue Leese, the physiotherapist Jill Simmons, the tour manager Liz Blaydes and Celia in her role as captain, and ephemera including tickets, invitations, menus, napkins and stickers.
