Darbishire House Board of Management Minutes

Scope and Content

Darbishire House Health Centre was a general practice health centre opened by the University of Manchester in 1954. The Centre was sponsored by the Nuffield and Rockefeller Foundations; its purpose was to provide general practice services to the local community in the Victoria Park area of Manchester, and also to undertake teaching and research into general practice on behalf of the University. The Centre was supervised by a board of management comprising members of the University, Manchester City Council, Manchester Medical Committee as well the GPs who worked at the practice. The first Chair of the committee was Fraser Brockington, the professor of social medicine at the University.
