Letter

Scope and Content

Letter from George Gissing to Nellie. He enquires of her and gives news of his pupils: I have now got for pupils four young ladies. The eldest is only fourteen, but they might each be taken for at least three years older than they are. I find them rather clever; we do English, History & Geography together. One of them is always reading Homer, & she tells me she would give anything to learn to read it in the original Greek. That is what you must do some day, mind that!

Dated at 5 Hanover St, Islington.
