This subfonds constitutes the bulk of the George Gissing Collection. There are three series: a substantial quantity of correspondence and papers relating to the collecting of George Gissing material by various booksellers and private collectors, including Chris Kohler (GRG/2/1); a large number of twentieth-century photographs of George Gissing's close family and friends and of places associated with Gissing and his novels (GRG/2/2); and printed material and ephemera relating to Gissing, including postcards, booksellers' catalogues, articles and exhibition catalogues (GRG/2/3).
