Scope and Content

In 1917 Council requested Bowles to collect details on the subject of frost damage due to the prolonged winter and exceptional frosts that year, in order to produce a report in the ‘Journal of the RHS’

Papers relate to Bowles’ enquiries as to temperature records and plants suffering frost damage, 1917-1919. Includes:

Section of questionnaire relating to winter temperatures, comprising question 9 only, printed: ‘How do the temperatures compare with those experienced during other winters?’ Completed in ink with temperatures and dates, one date for each year between 1907 and 1916
