Lease of a water mill called Kersal Mill from (1a) Samuell Cheetham of Turton Esq., and (1b) Henry Greenhalgh of Brandlesome [Brandlesholme, Bury] esq., to (2) Edward Byrom of Manchester, linen draper.
Each party had contributed to the making of a kiln at Kersal Mill as follows: (1a) £13, (1b) £10 (2) the remainder. (2) had formerly agreed to reimburse (1a and b) accordingly for the use of the kiln and the lease of their part of the ancient mill, and a cottage or tenement called Darbyshire's tenement, for 99 years, plus their shares of the ground upon which it stands, the mill green and garden, the toll for grinding the corn and grain, plus attendant rights. Rent: year one - one peppercorn; thereafter, 10s to (1a) and 10s to (1b) annually.
Conditions: (2) is also given licence to demolish the old mill and erect a new one in its place, to erect scaffolding, break up the ground on the moor and create seating on Kersal Moor for public occasions or meetings and take money for use of the same, but may not grant the licence to anyone else; if (1) decides to dwell in Kersal, they shall be free of toll.
