Salford properties, Greengate, Gravel Hole and back Salford Street, 1703-1757. In 1703 Edward Byrom (1656-1711) acquired lands in Greengate and Gravel Hole, which had formerly belonged to the Salford branch of the Byrom family. Greengate, an area situated across the river from Manchester Cathedral, was known as Back Salford.
