Letter from Messrs [John] Fitchett & [Joseph] Wagstaff to Lord Stamford (/12), dated 30 April 1827. They provide an account of a special meeting of trustees of Warrington Free Grammar School held to consider the resignation of Mr [William] Boardman as headmaster. The trustees present resolved to propose at the next annual meeting in August that a new headmaster should be appointed, as Boardman is unfit to continue on the grounds of ill-heath. Boardman should receive £400 to reimburse him for expenses incurred during his time as headmaster, and an annuity of £150 for life, personally guaranteed by the trustees.
Also a copy of Lord Stamford's reply (/13), dated 5 May. He declines to give an opinion until the August meeting of trustees.
Dated at: Warrington (/12) and Enville (/13).
/12 annotated "Query: How can I bind my successors with such a payment?" in the hand of Lord Stamford.
