Letter and copy reply

Scope and Content

From poet Craig Raine (b. 1944), [poetry editor] at Faber and Faber, signed on his behalf by Fiona McCrae. He asks Nicholson to contribute to a planned volume of poetry intended as a showcase for the Faber poetry list; it is to be a limited edition in which each poet will have 100 lines. /2 is a copy of Nicholson's reply in which he explains that he has not written a poem for two years, due to his wife's illness and death. He therefore feels unable to offer a contribution, although suggests they might include one or two pieces from Sea to the West. He also comments that "it would be nice to see a Collected Nicholson before I finally sign off."

Dated at: London, and Millom, Cumbria.

Typescript with autograph in /1; /1 also includes envelope.
