Scope and Content

From Sam Taylor [Canon Samuel Taylor (1884-1956) who from 1935 occupied the living of Holy Trinity, Millom, and became a lifelong friend and spiritual mentor to NCN]. In /1 he informs Nicholson that he has discovered the marriage registration of Nicholson's grandfather in the Priory Books at Grange-Over-Sands. He transcribes the entry, which gives details of the marriage of Richard Nicholson of Hard Crag in Cartmel to Maria Brennan of Havertrack on 29 November 1862. /2 refers to the death of Nicholson's father, to whom Taylor was devoted, and to Nicholson's "beautiful parable of the rock" which he listened to the previous night ['Look to the Rock', broadcast on the BBC Home Serve on 14 February 1954].
